Project Attica was recently invited by the Validus Preparatory Academy to participate in Validus' 7th Annual March Against Violence.
The Validus March Against Violence was created to celebrate the lives of Nadairee Walters and Martin Jackson, two seniors, who lost their lives in two separate gun related events in 2008. On this day teachers and students alike participated in break-out sessions challenged them to address the issue of violence in their community and to know their rights. After which participated in a school wide march which led them through their community to a gathering in Crotona Park.
On March 11, Project Attica facilitated and led 3 break out sessions where students learned how art and activism can be combined to empower us as artivist. After our discussions on stereotypes, prejudice, violence, police brutality, and mass incarceration, the students created their own artivist t-shirts in honor of the March Against Violence.
