Today we celebrate the anniversary of Kalief Browder who at the age of 16 spent three years locked up at Rikers Island without ever being convicted of a crime. Today we remember that for three years Kalief was subjected to violence from inmates and correction officers alike, he was tortured in solitary confinement for much of those three years, brutalized and victimized. The inhumanity of Rikers Island took its toll on Kalief in 2015 when he committed suicide.
Come out and join the campaign to Shutdown Rikers at Columbus Circle (starting location).
